It is also illegal for co-workers and managers to harass you in the workplace based on your membership in one of these categories. A common type of harassment is sexual harassment. Sexual harassment can include harassment by a manager or co-worker of the same gender and can be perpetrated by both men and women.
There are two types of sexual harassment, quid pro quo harassment and hostile work environment harassment. Quid pro quo harassment is when an employer conditions employment decisions and the terms and conditions of your employment on sexual conduct.
Hostile work environment harassment occurs when an employee is subjected to conduct of a sexual nature which has the effect of creating an intimidating, hostile, humiliating or sexually offensive work environment. Examples of conduct of a sexual nature include inappropriate touching, sexual epithets, jokes, displaying sexually suggestive pictures and sexual gestures.
